a small excerpt from an email i sent noah cicero that noah cicero told me to post on my blog:

most art is "beauty" when "beauty" is not a reflection of reality. it is an abstraction of reality.

in the past that was fine, because the people that enjoyed the abstraction of reality were the people that experienced that reality. the people that went to see picasso's guernica actually lived through it. the experience of seeing it as an abstraction helped them cope with something horrible, like existence.

now the rich see "beauty" as another thing to put on the mantle, and those that need the abstraction are stuck with fucking MTV, which isn't an abstraction, but a fun costume that bullshit wears.
